EDITORIAL COMMENT

Two weeks ago, I bought a shop light from Wal-mart. When I got home and opened the box, I discovered that it had been crushed. Knowing Wal-mart, I tried to make it work and couldn’t. Last week I returned it and got a full refund and bought another. This time when I got home and plugged it in, it wouldn’t work either. I fiddled with it and got it to work and later on it failed again. I got it to work for a while and it failed again. This time I swore that if it worked, even just barely, I would keep it anyway. This is what is happening to us. We are becoming inured to substandard products because it’s more trouble to return the item than it is to keep it even though it is unsatisfactory. I changed my mind. I will not succumb to these standards. I will keep returning the defective light till I get one that works. Eventually the manufacturer will get tired of this.

SAFETY TIP

Are you using a space heater? Put your hand on the power cable. Use the back of your hand. Is it warm or even uncomfortably hot? If so, unplug the heater and turn off the circuit breaker. Open the outlet and check the wire terminals. Tighten any you find loose. This is often a cause of electrical fires. Never plug a heater into an outlet that is being used by another appliance.

EMAIL

I complained about my recent electric bill and here's the response: Dear Customer, Just a little note to let you know we understand your anger in the recent price hike. But it should be noted that you have no choice. We are a big company and you will pay what we tell you. You have no choice. We have the power, you need the power.   So sad....too bad. We have enclosed a little picture to help outline our response. Have a nice day and keep those checks coming!      Sincerely,  Your Local Power Co . Mike French

(Ed. I do not believe that even the VEA would be this arrogant. I removed the picture as it was too obscene for publication)

DOG PARK

This photo is of the new “pet” park. Neil King (BGID) informs me dog’s are now allowed in the park on a leash and their waste be picked up, using the bags provided, and deposited in the containers provided. (Ed. It would be perfect, if someone would paint out the “no dogs” on the old sign)
