I QUIT

Janet Rogers (Town Clerk) resigned at the BTAB meeting Wednesday the 10th of February. “I enjoyed working with many people in Nye County. I will miss them.” Janet’s resignation is effective February 24th.

JACK CROWELL FIELD

I don’t know how Jack feels about the condition of his monument but the rest of the ball field is worse.

It makes me wonder how Theresa has the gall to complain about the Fire Hall when she sees this everyday. Talk about ‘glass houses’. I talked, by phone, to the new Principal Karen Hills who, unlike her predecessor, is aware of the problem and has a plan to fix it. Dave Spicer will be removing the old sheds. Dave will also be removing the curb at the broad jump area so the maintenance man can get to them. (I guess he couldn’t step over the curb). As for the batting cage, it is to be repaired or removed.

One last complaint about the decorum of the BTAB. Albert Verilli was at the podium speaking his piece when Theresa interrupted him to explain that that subject had been taken care of. Albert had not finished his presentation and was prevented from doing so by her rude interruption. Rene Younghans let her get away with speaking out of order, and Theresa, by interrupting Albert, took over her job as Chairman. This surprised me as Rene is a take charge person herself. This new Board is operating too loosely, in my opinion. (I had some photos, but no room.)

At the Town Board meeting on the 13th, it was stated by Theresa Sullivan, that the Beatty Health Clinic was open 5 days a week, Monday through Friday. On the 15th of January, my Mother had an appointment at the Clinic and to our surprise on Friday I took my Mother up to the Clinic and it was closed. And Joannie Jarvis came up to the podium and verified that they were open 5 days a week. This was after the town Secretary asked if it was open 5 days a week. Randy Reed  (the BTAB is confused as to the requirement of “open 5 days”. Apparently the clinic may not have to have anyone available to treat emergency patients.)

On February 1st, I came to Pahrump to attend a Concerned Citizens for a Safe Community (CCSC) meeting and do some light shopping.  At 6 P.M., I left the KFC on highway 372 and was turning left onto highway 160 from the left turn lane (with the green left turn arrow light on) and was pulled over by one of Nye County’s madmen with a badge.  I was asked for my driver’s license.  When I handed it to the officer, I asked what I had done, knowing I had not exceeded a speed limit or violated any laws.  I was asked if I had any citations on my driving record and informed him that I did not.  I was told that I had been stopped for two reasons.  First, the Gestapo informed me that I had failed to use my turn signal to indicate my intention to turn left and the Keystone Kop wanted to know if my signals work.  I checked and it did.  I was then informed that I had failed to stop at the large white line in the left turn lane which designates where you must stay until the light changes.  The Nazi stated that he was going to run my license and, if true that I had no citations, we could keep it that way.  He then informed me that he needed to see my proof of insurance and current registration when he returned with my license.  Shortly, he returned my license, perused my other papers and released me with advice to be careful to use my turn signal when turning left because I would be surprised about how many people just blow through an intersection and my use of a turn signal will protect me.

After the Gestapo left, I was informed by my passenger that this creep had searched my vehicle while I was getting my billfold out of my hip pocket in preparation to showing my license.  He had approached my vehicle and shined his flashlight into the back and side and visually searched the interior through the rear and side windows. I object to the Nazi tactics used by this Sheriff Department.  I object to the way they treat visitors to Nye County and I especially object to their cavalier violations of my Rights as a Citizen of Nye County, Nevada, and the United States.  I do not believe they have a right to detain an individual and perform a visual search based on such criteria. DeMeo, his Captains and Lieutenants must be examined for Nazi tendencies and the bad ones must go!  I tell you people, these out of control county employees are affecting my property values by their actions.  Who can I sell my house to while this Sheriff Department is abusing the public like this? Bert Bertram (BTAB)

As everyone is aware, we have utility poles in the middle of our sidewalk on US95 South from the intersection of US95 and SR374.  I have been trying to get them relocated for quite some time now.  I believe that I have made some progress.  NDOT is fully aware of the problem and has included them in an upcoming reconstruction project.  There will be another on site preconstruction visit March 3, 2010 and I will insist that they are included as a violation of ADA standards. A possibility exists that we can get them moved in advance of the reconstruction and I will make every effort to have them moved as soon as possible.

 CHAMBER
BEATTY, Nevada—after more than two years of continuing effort the Beatty Chamber of Commerce has trade marked the phrase “Gateway to Death Valley”. The process that began quietly over two years ago hit several snags before Chamber President Ann Marchand hand delivered the final changes to the Secretary of State’s Las Vegas offices, in a face-to-face meeting.  At one point important documents were either lost or mishandled, which eventually necessitated restarting the entire process.  The fact that the title is an intangible, that does not identify an actual “product” as well known names such as Sunkist, and Nike do, also hindered the process.

PSA

Our Chamber has invited The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West to perform  a two hour program free at Beatty High School on Monday February 22nd at 7:00 PM. Also our High School band Director , Dale Lerbakken, will choose 8 students to sing along with the band. This is an opportunity to see and hear a great musical entertainment treat.
