 BTAB MEETING

There weren’t many of you at the last Town meeting. I didn’t enjoy it too much, but you might have if you like to hear complaints about what I write. Theresa Sullivan (BTAB Vice Chairman) didn’t like what I had to say about her in last weeks ‘News.” When she reads this weeks ‘News’ she will probably like it even less.

This is the 4th time that BTAB members have chosen the Town Meeting to complain about me. It makes me wonder why they choose that forum to voice their complaints, since none of them has ever called me or written me to do so. It appears, to me, that their complaints are groundless and that they only express them, in this manner, because they know what I write is probably true so they use the town meeting hoping that I will be embarrassed and stop writing about them. Sorry. That will not work. (To be honest, as soon as I realize the complaint is directed at me, my hearing gets even worse).

I have commented about many people in this town in a less than complimentary fashion and most of them contact me and I publish their rebuttals. I do not fear their words but I cannot fix a problem if these people refuse to talk to me. Therefore, for the record, I will continue to write what I know to be factual and what I feel is right. I am getting tired of their expensive and uneducated approach to solving the Town’s problems. If you want proof, just look around at all the projects that have consumed our tax dollar and are not of any use.

Many years ago, people fought duels to settle conflicts. I guess it was felt that if you survived, you were vindicated. I would rather not deal with these problems in that harsh a manner. From now on, voice your complaints in a civilized manner and don’t be so cowardly!

I left a message on Theresa’s machine and am waiting for a reply. (As of this printing, as usual, Theresa has failed to return my call. I consider that to be not only rude but vindication about what I wrote). I could add that if you don’t like what I write, don’t read it. But, that is not what I want. I want the people I target to stand up and be counted. I want them to take responsibility for their actions. I will not allow them to hide behind their position and do stupid and irrational things. Stop spending our tax dollar on your own selfish interests.

There was a request, by Rene, that all “sub-groups, report to the BTAB on either a monthly or a quarterly basis. This is so that the BTAB knows what they are doing with the Counties money. On the face of it, this doesn’t sound like a bad idea. When you look closer it appears that the BTAB doesn’t trust those groups.

REWARD MINE NEWS

I have it on good authority, (an upper Briggs Mine manager) who claims that they will be interviewing for jobs at the mine this month (February). The original crew will be 25 and then escalate to 75 when the mine is in full operation. The Reward mine is about three miles southeast of Town on hwy. 95. Look to the east at the old Pilipino buildings and you can see where they have started excavating.

THE HOUSE THAT MIKE BUILT

What you are seeing is a picture of the new fire hall under construction and the volunteers (most of whom, helped to build it) and their families. I believe we should support what they did and ignore the comments that were stirred up by the BTAB that alluded to shoddy and non-code workmanship. These comments caused a team of County employees to come to Beatty and denigrate the work of these dedicated community spirited volunteers. I have seen the work that Mike did and he can work on my construction team any time. I believe that these charges are personal and not objective. Why is it that some people can only see negatives?

EMAIL

One of the finest volunteer projects that I have ever witnessed was that of volunteers erecting and finishing the new fire hall.  Those volunteers deserve high praise and that effort saved Beatty and Nye County a tremendous amount of money.  Now forces are at work to make it seem as though that project was totally bungled and to shame those that were connected with it. Not long ago, volunteers were eager to finish the park.  When the tree was planted everyone helped.  After that, the naysayers took over.

Those same forces are determined to browbeat everyone that disagrees with them into submission.  I have never seen this town more divided.  Nothing can be done to change this situation unless the town wants it changed.  Where are the people who want it changed?  They need to start coming to the meetings and speaking up if they want things to be different than the way it is now.  HOW FIGHTS START

My wife and I were watching “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” while we were in bed. I turned to her and said, “Do you want to have sex? ”No,” she answered. I then said, “Is that your final answer?” She didn’t even look at me this time, simply saying, “Yes.” So I said, “Then I’d like to phone a friend.” And then the fight started.
