VEA DIRECTOR RECALL?

Concerned Citizens for a Safe Community (CCSC) are mounting a drive to recall all Directors of the VEA. The concern is that the Coop is not acting in the best interest of its members. From the CEO’s wages of $337,000 per year to the $4 million for 12 retiring employees and the Directors pay of $650 to attend each meeting; and sometimes there are more than one meeting per month. When you add all these costs up, it is easy to understand why members are upset. It seems, to this reporter, that the Directors are not acting in the best interest of the Coop members.

Let me give you an example of how much fun it is to work with VEA. Two years ago the BTAB elected to get VEA to move some utility poles that are in the side walk on 2nd avenue from Main Street down to Amargosa Street. The idea was to move these poles a few feet to allow easier pedestrian walking. After many weeks of going through channels, I gave up and contacted Tom Husted, VEA’s CEO (at $337,000/year). I was immediately put in contact with Robby Hamlin, VEA Engineer, who met with Bert Bertram and yours truly. In a matter of weeks Robby had taken care of removing poles that had been stripped of the old cable TV. He was very cooperative and helpful.

However, when it came to moving the poles off the sidewalk, he was hard to pin down. He stopped returning my calls. After trying to reach him by phone and Email, for several months, I learned that he was no longer here but had moved to Arizona. Nice of him to let us know. I am now trying to locate someone who took his place!

APOLOGIES TO YOU

Wendy Scarborough, as Sue Lowden’s campaign Manager for the Beatty area, asked me to be at the Senior Center for an interview of this likely opponent to Democratic Senator Reid. My apology  is to those who expected me to be there. I ,due to dementia, went to Pahrump instead. Sue is a viable candidate in this race and will probably be running for this important seat.

Talking about Senator Reid, Sue said:

“In 30 years, he's changed,” she said in an interview Thursday in Carson City. “He's become a Washington insider and gone way over to the left. I do think Nevada is a center-right state and that Harry Reid has lost touch.”

Lowden is one of a dozen Republicans who have announced challenges to Reid, the Senate majority leader who is seeking a fourth term.

If elected, Lowden said her plan would be to cut the burden on businesses, put people back to work and put the money in their pockets rather than give it to the government. (Ed. Is it just me or does this sound like your typical pol speaking to us ignorant voters.) The capital gains tax should be reduced or even eliminated because, under the current system, “people get penalized for taking a risk and making some money,” she said. (Me, again. Sounds phony coming from someone with an estimated worth of $30 million)

Lowden served one term in the Nevada Senate in the 1990s, rising to majority whip and chairman of the taxation committee.
During that term, she drew fire from the powerful Las Vegas culinary union over her votes to reform the industrial insurance system and her husband Paul's efforts to stop union organizers in the couple's casino properties. (Ed. I am opposed to unions. After fighting for years to raise wages (so far so good) they have gone too far and put American Workers wages so high that it encourages Corporations to move out of the Country. I don’t know who is greedier, the Corporations or the Unions) I don’t like Harry Reed. I also don’t trust politicians. I guess anyone’s better than Harry.

 How Fights Start
My wife sat down on the settee next to me as I was flipping channels. She asked, 'What's on TV?'
I said, 'Dust.’ And then the fight started...
