BTAB MEETING January 13th

Erika Gerling took her seat as the newest Board member. Bert Bertram, Vice Chairman, opened the meeting with election of officers. The first item was for the Chairman’s seat. Rene Younghans was nominated and elected. Bert turned the meeting over to her. Rene opened up with asking for nominations for Vice Chairman and Treasurer. Theresa Sullivan was elected as Vice Chairman and Erica as Treasurer. The Treasurer made her report and Theresa reported on the Clinic. As usual, there was nothing to report except to explain that the ambulance will not take emergency patients to the clinic as, according to Theresa, Nevada law forbids that. The clinic is not an emergency facility as defined in NRS. Theresa Mossey of the clinic said that “They will treat any injured person who arrives at the clinic to the best of their ability and if the injuries are beyond their ability they will call an ambulance to transport patient to a facility better prepared to help.

Theresa then went back to her wish for a proper house for the Doctor, if we ever get one (a Doc, I mean). If you remember, Theresa once tried to get the Board to approve $100,000 for a housing facility and another $100,000 as a bonus. This was disapproved at that time. I imagine it will be easier to pass now. Theresa, in an attempt to push her housing agenda, stated that other towns (she did not name) had very nice houses for their medical staff.

Theresa stated, in support for her desire for Doctor housing, that most of the Towns have very nice houses for their Doctors. I wanted to verify this so I talked to Michelle Rook, Coordinator for the Town of Amargosa, who said that their Doctor drives up from Las Vegas every day and therefore has no need for the house they have provided. Michelle also said that it is a single wide trailer in “adequate condition but is not livable due to wiring problems. (Ed. So much for the “nice” houses provided by other towns. I won’t say that Theresa lied, but she sure stretched the truth! Theresa is also considering moving the Clinic to the “Triangle Park”. (Where does she get these ideas?)

 BEATTY BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT

All contents Copyright © 2009 The Beatty News, Beatty Nevada 25 cents

The following applicants were awarded money for their projects;

  1. Sourdough $5,000
  2. Rupert Bragg-Smith (old NAPA bldg.)$5,000
  3. Ed Ringle $14,225 (LOOKS LIKE THEM THAT HAS-GETS, DOESN’T IT?)

 Ed is asking for $5,000 to reimburse him for stuccoing his laundry and shower rooms that have not been constructed as yet. The project money is specifically designated for remodeling and not for new construction. The fact that the BTAB has approved this project smells of complicity. I am sure that the BTAB is acting as they feel they should, but skipping over the “Rupert” project and making an award in this case is ill advised.

IN MY OPINION

 Ed. I hope that what I am about to say isn’t taken as to mean more than to let the towns people know the truth. Theresa Sullivan, BTAB Vice Chairman, wants a park. She has wanted a park for a long while. She was frustrated in her desires because she is not trained to develop the architecture for such an undertaking and she didn’t have the juice to get the Board behind her. But now she is the Vice Chairman and she can push for her agenda.

__________________________________________________________________________________
The triangle was donated to the town. It is a good location for a rest stop and, in my opinion, would have
made a good place for travelers to recuperate; But as a park? We already have one of those. This town isn’t big enough for two parks. It doesn’t make any sense to me, to spend $511,000 on a park we don’t need just to satisfy the ego of Theresa Sullivan.

But that doesn’t matter to Theresa. It is a park she wants and she is determined to have one for her own reasons. What are her reasons? She wants to be able to say that she did it. If someone on the Board made the suggestion that the park should be named after her, she would embrace the idea. The fact that the cost of her park will be $511,000 means nothing, it isn’t her money. After all, she wanted, and still does, to spend $200,000 for a doc and housing.

NOW FOR THE BIG QUESTION: who do you suppose is going to maintain this park? The BGID maintains Cottonwood park. Do you suppose the BTAB is just going to dump this project on them? I’m sure Theresa hasn’t given this a thought.

Mr. Editor:    It has been reported to me that a free design for the town square "triangle" has been submitted to the town board. I have also been informed that much of the material needed to complete this project has been offered gratis. The board of course refused to hear it. Just what kind of idiots are they? Instead they are spending $10,000on an architect who is reported to have produced a design that will cost in excess of a half a million dollars. Money we don't have and can't get. This kind of idiocy is why Beatty is getting nowhere. This is Beatty Nevada population plus or minus 1000. Love it, treat it with respect and it will continue to be Beatty Nevada. A unique town well worth saving
