 EDITORIAL COMMENT

Two and a half years ago, I needed heating and air for the cabin. No one in Vegas or Pahrump would sell me one. I finally got Jonaire inc.of Pahrump to install a split “heat pump.” Within a week there was a problem. In order to get Jonaire inc. to come and make repairs, I had to threaten a law suit. They did come out and fix the problem and it has been working well since. Now, the heating cycle doesn’t work. Jonaire inc. refuses to even talk to me. Jim Falkner, local handy-man, says that the manufacturer won’t support the product and he can’t find a parts catalogue because no one has ever heard of it. I contacted the Nevada Licensing Board who says that there is nothing they can do about it as it has been too long since it was installed.(This isn’t over yet)

THIS IS A SPORT?

How about the Colts throwing a game and sacrificing their unbeaten record to insure their players are healthy for the Stupid Bowl. I am pretty sure that the fans who paid to watch a ball game would like their money refunded. Now hear this. Now there’s talk that the Patriots and the Bengals are going to lay down for their games so the Steelers won’t make it to the playoffs. When the Colts took their best players off the field, did they give any consideration to the fans who paid $100 to get in after paying $35 to park and then $12 for a glass of beer ?.

As Americans, we have been told that if we work hard we will reap the benefits. That doesn’t always work, but we still don’t lie down and give up. Now we watch our “professional” teams doing just that. What is that teaching America’s youth? I think it is that you do whatever it takes to win; even cheating and stealing.

WANTED

Man with boat to remove the remains of a duck and goose killed by someone we would rather not think lives on the same planet; much less the same town. It was bad enough to know that they were thoughtlessly killed, much less to have to see the results of their cruelty every day. I’m sure all of us, who visit the pond, would appreciate this.

EMAIL

Hi Charles, HAPPY NEW YEAR.  I am writing because I miss getting your newspaper by email.  It is not only entertainingly written, but very informative as well.  I hope your newspaper is still being published and would gladly pay for a subscription by email.  By the way, would you know who cut down all the trees next to the pond. thanks, and best wishes,

PHONE TROUBLE?

If you tried to call long distance on Monday, you found that you couldn’t. That’s because ATT lost their trunks somewhere between Beatty and Las Vegas. When I called to complain, they didn’t know there was a problem. Surprise, Surprise!

WHY I DON’T LIVE IN PAHRUMP

Utilities Inc. provides water and sewage for parts of Pahrump. They are expanding their area (that’s them on highway 160) that will also include the new Detention Facility N/O town. Utilities Inc has announced an 80% increase in rates.

The Beatty Water Board is charging a high rate for new customers so that those of us who are grandfathered don’t have to suffer what Pahrump users have to.

VEA

Now, as most of you who read my paper know, I’m not very smart so maybe I don’t really get it. But, it seems to me that the VEA Board Members are committed to vote for anything they are told to vote for. You ask why? They are paid $650 for attending each Board meeting. Wouldn’t that inspire a person to do what they are told to do?
