 GOOD ADVICE

There is a show playing at the Luxor in Vegas. A friend of mine took his wife and another couple to see it as it was touted to be an excellent source of entertainment. They paid $200 a seat. The magician ( Criss Angel) did three average magic tricks and the rest of the show was entertainment by some Mexican acts. To say the least, my friend and company were angry as they felt that the Luxor had misrepresented the show. Ed. This could never happen to me as there is no way that I could afford more than $5 for a movie even.

 WELCOME SIGNS

I talked to Brad Hunt (NDOT) who advised me that since the Chamber has a sign at both ends of town, they, NDOT, will not place (free) Welcome to Beatty signs. It would seem, to me, that the Girls Club is monopolizing this advertising for their own good. Why doesn’t the BTAB come up with signing that advertises businesses other than what the ‘Girls’ club wants? I asked Ann Marchand if it is true that the Girls Club has exclusive rights to the only sign NDOT will allow in Beatty. Ann said that it is true but she added that the Chamber is paying for the signs. Wrong! We, the taxpayers are paying for the signs.

 IS BEATTY A TOWN?

According to Deputy District Attorney Marla Zlotek, we are not. If we aren’t a town, do we have any rights under Nevada State Revised Statutes? If we are operating illegally, can the State of Nevada force us to incorporate? If we are, forced to incorporate, how many new laws will we have to obey? Will there be new building codes? Will there be zoning restrictions? Will you be able to operate your business in your present location? Will you be able to build anything?

Bert Bertram has an agenda item before the BTAB Wednesday that may answer these questions. Beatty is a free, open easy to live-in town. What will it be after incorporation?

Is it legal for the County to collect taxes, since we are not a Town? Should they pay back our tax dollar?

How about this: the BTAB; Beatty Town Advisory Board. Since we are not a ‘town’, there is no Beatty or Town so it must be just the “Advisory Board” and does not represent anyone legally!

 EDITORIAL COMMENT

I received two comments this week about all the emails I get praising KC’s Outpost. I can only say that they are legitimate mails. I print them for your information and I am not deliberately providing free advertising for KC’s.

WARNING FROM  THE SHERIFF

Heads up everyone! Please, keep this circulating.... You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and shift into reverse. When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your
parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically mow you down as they speed off in your
car. And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your Money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.
If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away. Remove the paper later and be thankful that you read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and Family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

SNOW AND ITS HAZARDS

Frank Jarvis (Lieutenant Nye County Sheriff) informed me that there were three accidents just a few miles north of town. Even though there was no snow on the road, there was ice. One of these accidents involved our ambulance. Details are sketchy at this writing but there were no injuries and the ambulance was able to deliver its passenger to the hospital safely. Most Southern Nevada drivers have never driven on ice and don’t know what to do about it or even how to recognize it. I once drove to work, got out of my truck and my feet slid out from under me. I didn’t even know I had been driving on ice.

Starting about now and continuing through winter expect ice after inclement weather and slow down and keep a much longer distance between you and other vehicles. Brakes are your enemy not your friend. Avoid passing. Use caution on bridges and shaded turns. Drive safely.

Frank Jarvis was at the Town meeting last Wednesday to tell the community that they (the Deputies) are here to serve us. He asked that anyone who has a complaint, of any kind, to come and report it. It will be acted upon.
