DROWNING IN ALASKA

The day after his wife disappeared in a kayaking accident, an Anchorage man answered his door to find two grim-faced Alaska State Troopers.

"We're sorry Mr. Wilkens, but we have some information about your wife," said one trooper.

"Tell me! Did you find her?" Wilkens shouted.

The troopers looked at each other. One said, “We have some bad news, some good news, and some really great news. Which do you want to hear first?”

Fearing the worst, an ashen Mr. Wilkens said, “Give me the bad news first.” The trooper said, “I’m sorry to tell you, sir, but this morning we found your wife’s body in Kachemak Bay.”

”Oh my God!” exclaimed Wilkens. Swallowing hard, he asked, “What’s the good news?”

The trooper continued, “When we pulled her up, she had 12 twenty-five pound king crabs and 6 good-size Dungeness crabs clinging to her.” Stunned, Mr. Wilkens demanded, “If that’s the good news, what’s the great news?”

The trooper said, “We’re going to pull her up again tomorrow.”

Dear Charlie,

We, at the Happy Burro Chile and Beer, would like to thank everyone for participating in our Homecoming game football pool and particularly Joe Marr and Helen Terry, the winners of the pools. Due to their participation, they have helped make it possible to donate $100 to the Athletics Department for the Beatty High School. Thanks, Patti and Fred

Have you seen the new lamps at the park? Since the new members of the BGID have taken over, the park is looking up.

Apparently this ex-corrections Officer (High Desert State Prison at Indian Springs) didn’t.  I read that only 10% of all crimes are solved and that only 10% of those arrested ever do time. TOWN MEETING WEDNESDAY (2009, 10, 14)

Brad Hunt (Nevada Department of Transportation) spoke on the work his department is planning for Beatty. According to Brad, they will be adding curbs from the existing one on Highway 95 South and go on past Amargosa Street and the ‘Rest Area’ stopping at Third Street. They will then pave up to the curbing.

Ann Marchand (Ann’s Past and Present) wanted the curbing to jog in towards the ‘Rest Area’. Theresa Sullivan (Board Member) agreed with her on this. (ED. I do not get their reasoning. If NDOT jogs in at that point, the ‘Rest Area will shrink to its marked boundaries. If NDOT follows a curving line past this area, the ‘Rest Area’ size will increase and will have to provide fill to bring the ‘Rest Area’ to meet with the curbing).

Theresa Sullivan made a point of informing the audience that Mike’s job would be up for grabs in December. Guess who wants it!

More on this meeting next week.
