Dear Charley, I was so surprised to see that you printed the article saying Obama's health care plan would help people to end their lives sooner! That is so far from the truth Charley! The government will help old people write living wills free of charge. A living will is something I have and all of us should have. Living wills do not end our lives sooner. Living wills are a good thing.
  Doctor Kevorkian is in jail now for helping people to commit suicide (or end their lives sooner)!
   When you write things like this you just spread more hate and discontent. Why do you want to scare old people this way? I think we have enough fear mongers in our world. What we need are some positive thinkers who think about the good of all of the poor people who do not have any insurance instead of making the insurance companies richer. Please print things that will pull the people of our country together and not divide us anymore than we are already divided.   Obama's health care plan is not suggesting the government is going to push suicide to cut Medicare expenses! That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!

This letter is regarding the upcoming B.G.I.D meeting. On their agenda is the discussion on hiring a part time employee. They already have 2 FULL TIME PEOPLE a part time person is not needed. But could this be some good old Beatty NEPOTISM. One of the board members relations needs a job? If they decide to hire a part time person it should be open to everyone. I would like to know what is the deal with the sidewalks in Beatty. Beatty is a nice looking town except for the sidewalks. They are getting overgrown by weeds and crab grass in spots. One spot across from the Beatty mercantile has a 6 in drop off by the benches. And there is gravel on the sidewalks in several places. This would make for a great lawsuit. If someone were to slip and fall they could sue the town since the town wanted them and paid for them, this makes the town liable. And if they are on NDOT right of way they could be named too. I hope this can be fixed before something happens. If it gets cleaned up it would look a lot better. The benches and lights look great lets make the rest look great too Bob Redland  Beatty,NV

EDITORIAL COMMENT

What can I do? I know what I want in a politician. I want someone I can believe in. I want someone I can trust. I am so sick of what the Congress is doing with the auto companies and the banks and our taxes and social security that I just want to scream, “Stop it. What you are doing is not what I want!” It is time for another revolution only this time we have to make our politicians afraid of our vote again. Do you remember when we had that power (or at least thought we had)? Do you remember when our politicians cared what we thought?

If we revolted against the way things are being done in Washington, there wouldn’t be enough jails to hold us. If we really wanted change, we would risk everything we have to do something about it. What can we do? Our friends agree that there must be changes and then they vote for politicians who say they will make those changes but are just shining us on to get elected. I wish with all my heart that I could say that this is the way to go, but the truth is that I do not know what to do. It seems that the good people cannot get the money behind them to run for office. The money people get behind those that will give them what they want.

There is something that we can do. Look at our town. What do we want done? Do we want anything done? We have an elected Beatty Town Advisory Board. These people are ours. They will carry our wishes to the Board of County Commissioners who will act on what we want.

Here is what we can do. Come to the Town meetings. Do not sit there meekly and let things happen. When the Board starts to argue tell them to shut up and do their jobs. They must act for us and will, when they know what it is that we want. What do you want to do with the “Town Square”? Get together with some of your friends and agree on what it is that you want and then go to Janet Rogers and make your wishes an agenda item. An agenda item, by law, must be dealt with. Do not let the Board dictate to you! You must dictate to them. That is your responsibility!
