TOWN MEETING WEDNESDAY THE 22ND

Carol Johnston (KCs Outpost) is asking the County for reimbursement of 65% of the cost of adding a western style porch to the front of the Outpost. The Board approved this item with the addition of a cap of $2,800 for this reimbursement.

The rest of the meeting, except for public comments, was taken up by the “Town Square”. Bert Bertram, again, was asking for funds to design the park.

The next 45 minutes was taken up by arguments between the Board members. I am not going to get into naming and affixing responsibility to individuals. It seems, to me, that some members need to have anger management training. Things were brought up from the past that should be forgotten. I have talked about “pissing contests” before. They occur when the participants cannot support their position and begin to bring up errors from the past and throw them at each other. This position is unproductive and a waste of our time.

I believe that some Board members should look in the mirror and ask themselves; what am I here for?

If the answer is to aggrandize their position and make others pay for their failures, then it is time to resign and let someone else in. (Just in case you’re wondering what the Board did about Bert’s proposal, they deferred it to the next meeting. Surprise!)

In this reporters opinion, the Town would have been farther ahead in its beautification project, it the Reverts had never donated that property. I wish they would take it back and the Town refuse any “gifts” from now on. Bobby Marchand spoke, during the public session, against the Board using State funds to design the “rest stop”. I found his position odd, since he didn’t complain when his wife (Ann) used state funds for the controversial Chamber brochure. (See Our Chamber of Commerce below)

OUR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

I am pretty sure that you all know I support no love for the “Girls Club”. My biggest complaint being that they discriminate against who they will “allow” into the club. (Yours truly, being one of them). Albert Verilli gave me another one. In their new brochure, they do not advertise his business. This did not bother Albert until he read on the last page that this brochure was paid for by a grant from Nevada Commission on Tourism (I guess the State only uses our tax dollar to promote business’s that belong to the Chamber)and therefore should be advertising all business and not just the ones that the “Girls Club” likes. (Ed. I asked Ann about this and here is her response) Hello Charlie,

I am sorry that Mr.Verilli feels this way.  He was sent an application at the beginning of the year to renew his membership and he opted to not join.  In 2004 when Mr. Mulryan was President and Mr. Bass was Vice President, the Chamber of Commerce voted to only advertise those businesses that were members.  In checking with other Chambers of Commerce throughout Nevada, they only endorse and promote members within their Chamber.  The Chamber of Commerce has done a lot to promote the town and it is unfortunate that Mr. Verilli has opted to not join.  Sincerely, Ann Marchand/Beatty Chamber of Commerce President.

EDITORIAL COMMENT

I do not, usually, comment about news out of Beatty but I can’t pass this up. On Page 425 of Obama’s health care bill, the Federal Government will require EVERYONE who is on Social Security to undergo a counseling session every 5 years with the objective being that they will explain to them just how to end their own life earlier. Yes...They are going to push SUICIDE to cut Medicare spending!"

I’m sure that in his religion, as it was amongst the rest of the aboriginal natives, it was common practice to leave the old folks behind and let them die of exposure. I wonder if next, he will offer virgins in heaven so we will be encouraged to depart. This is no joke!

LETTERS

To whom it may concern. (Mr.? Ed Ringle) Thanks for removing the horseshoe pits so that you may have more parking space for all those cars and trucks that are staying at the “Death Valley Inn”! It’s a good thing you did that or they would have no place to park! Those of us who like pitchin’ shoes really appreciate your concern for our love of the game and the competition between fellow men and women. This world would be a far better place if people like you would stop trying to buy up all the land and develop it to your own standards! Oh wait…you can’t do that either as seen by the “El Sueno” site. Karma…What goes around, comes around! Thanks. Beatty Days Pitchers.

Hi, Charlie....I contacted Tom Seley, BLM, re. the  stagnant water on the north side of the new culvert on Fluorspar Rd.  I am glad to see he is aware of it, and keeping an eye on the effects the culvert will have down stream. Thought you would like to know, since you mentioned it when it was first put in the roadway. Shirley Harlan
