 LAST WEDNESDAY’S TOWN MEETING

I am going to try to bring you up to date on the Clinic. Sam Brashear’s got permission to rebuild the clinic and make it more modern. She presented her case well, based on her knowledge of other places where she has worked. She said that this remodeling would benefit the town because it would make the clinic more attractive for a Doc. (of course, at that time Sam did not know that we would have a Doc that would refuse to treat trauma patients) So, Sam hired a recommended contractor who proceeded to redo the plumbing and caused a major leak which flooded the clinic and shut it down for several weeks. Now the clinic is in limbo. Sam has, belatedly, decided to hold off the already expensive (how much, she is unwilling to say) remodeling in favor of a new clinic. Now Sam says that this is the way to go. Good thinking. Why didn’t she say so in the first place. Ed note. Our Doc has now recanted his no treatment plan in favor of treating an injured person enough to transport to another facility which will mean double billing!

Bert Bertram brought up the park issue. He wanted some kind of authorization to begin, but didn’t get anywhere.

 NYE COUNTY G.R.E.A.T PROGRAM

Deputy Rick Duggan (G.R.E.A.T. Program) is organizing these kids into teams: red, yellow, green and blue. They will compete in games that teach them to work as a team to reach a goal. This (according to Rick) discourages drug use and gangbanging. This activity encourages kids to look for legal outlets for their energies. Exercise and team activities do that well. This program has been downsized due to budget cuts. You might send Sheriff DeMeo a letter of support for this activity or maybe it will be cut entirely next year.

Hello Charlie,

Sending a link and info about canine parvo-virus. The virus is fairly common in Beatty and nearly always fatal if untreated.

Even though our puppy had its first vaccination for the disease she spent 3 days in Pahrump at the vet. on IV"s and antibiotics last week.  We picked her up Friday July 10 and brought her home.  Saturday she still would not eat or drink and we nearly gave up hope.  A neighbor whose dog recently was bitten by a rattlesnake gave us the website info and Sunday we drove to Vegas to buy a product called Parvaid.  We returned home and gave her a treatment of this natural ingredient product and within hours she began to drink on her own and started eating after 6 days without food.  It worked like a miracle. The parvaid link:  http://wolfcreekranch1.tripod.com/parvaid.html

EDITORIAL COMMENT

If you read the “News” much, you will have noticed that I refrain from non-local events. I do not like what is going on in our country and therefore I choose to ignore it. I am going to change that policy, at least as far as Pahrump is concerned. Things are happening in Pahrump that, not only was I not aware of, but didn’t care about. There is a revolution afoot that might very well impact us way up here. A committee has been formed, headed by Donna Cox, that wants  to have Butch Borasky (and later, others) recalled. It will not be easy, but I believe they are determined to succeed. Butch is Vice-Chair of the BCC (Board of County Commission) and voted to allow the construction of a detention center in Pahrump. The center will be built and run by a private company called CCA. They will charge the Fed $78/day for each prisoner and pay the County 58 cents for each prisoner. CCA will net $49/inmate/day.They are also building low-cost housing, and will not say for whom. It is believed, by Donna that they intend to house the families of prisoners and provide housing for released prisoners. If this is true, felons will become residents and will ply their nefarious skills in Pahrump. Because of this and for other reasons, all members of the BCC will be on the recall list. (Yes. That includes Joni Eastley).

Why should we care? Look at all the land around here. Do you suppose that CCA, or somebody else might get the idea that they could build a Detention Center here? I am concerned, and so should you be!
