TOWN MEETING WEDNESDAY THE 8TH

The Town Square ( rest stop) was discussed by Bert with the Board because Bert wants to move ahead. But, as usual, nothing was decided.

It was decided, after many questions by Theresa Sullivan, to allow utility bills from the Chamber, Museum and the Town Office to go to the Comptrollers Office without the approval of the BTAB.

The question of who own the property that the Library and the Lion Club is under discussion by the County. It was decided that the property would by divided into three parcels. This is the first step in the process that includes land for the new ambulance building.

Tom Chase (CEO of Nevada Health Centers) , wants the Town and County to give their approval so that he will than apply for a Federal grant. He wants the County to donate the land and the building to be deeded to Nevada Health Centers.

Sam Breshears, Beatty Health and Welfare is now backing this plan. It’s too bad she didn’t back it sooner and then all that money,(which nobody will admit to an amount) would not have been wasted.

My question is this: why does NHC want the building in their name?

Could it be so that they can use it for collateral on a loan which they will then want the County to repay? Hmmmm!

We need a new clinic! But, do we need one this badly?

Pictured, with the one inch line, is Lieutenant Frank Jarvis (Frank was a volunteer Fireman and is just helping out now). The fire, according to Mike Lasorsa, was reported at 2:25 PM Thursday the 9th. The cause is under investigation by Deputy Joe Murphy; Mike thinks the probable cause was a “bottle rocket”. (we cannot say enough about our Fire Service. Their reaction time prevented a major disaster.

Nevada Health Centers, who operate our clinic, is submitting an application for Recovery Act (Stimulus) funds to build a new clinic in Beatty.

If you support this project, please send a letter to the Beatty Town Advisory Board (BTAB), the Board of County Commissions (BOCC) and Nevada Health Centers

I'm not sure the best way to get one to the commissioners, you can e-mail Joni Eastley at castle@lnett.com or mail to County of Nye, PO Box 153, Tonopah, NV 89049.  Drop your letters of at the town office or e-mail them to beatty@beattynv.com.  Please e-mail a copy to me or get one to me so I can send them to Nevada Health Centers.  The clinic will send them all together in their weekly mail to their head quarters. Just say something like:I really feel that we need a new medical facility in Beatty.  We will never be done fixing all the things that are wrong with the current building.  Having a new, modern facility will help attract businesses and families to our community.  Having a modern facility may attract a wider selection of doctors and other health care professionals.  I strongly urge the BTAB and the BOCC to support this project. Those are just some suggestions.  This is a time sensitive issue, so please do this ASAP. Have a great day.  If you're a Little Leaguer, I'll see you at the picnic tomorrow. The above doesn’t surprise me. The motels are highly competitive. It has always been this way. When Jim Mulryan was President of the Chamber and the Manager of the Exchange Club and Motel, he refused to go to the  new owner (at that time) of the PhoenixInn and welcome him to Beatty. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that (according to the Manager of the Atomic Inn)the “Oasis Valley” refers  it’s overflow guests to the other  motels.

Bobby Revert let his pets loose at the Pond. We now have two geese and four duck to enjoy. Bobby believes that they will be there for a long time. I hope so. If you are planning to kill them; the thrill you get for that would be surpassed a thousand fold by knowing that you are responsible for the continued enjoyment of those who will see them alive. Leave your guns at home when you come to the pond.

 EMAILHello to you!

Thought you would like to hear some local info – for the benefit of your town and the almighty tourist dollar.

We were just passin’ though Beatty on the way from Las Vegas and stopped at the candy store.  Great place – bought lots of bags of unnecessary but tasty morsels at the joint.  We asked if there was a place to eat in town.  They said an emphatic “NO” and that we should eat from their assortment.  They were not kidding.

We ventured beyond yearning for a real meal, willing to drive hours to get one, and found KC’s Outpost.  We ate a tasty lunch and enjoyed great hospitality.   It seems odd to me though, that the candy and nut store would be so self serving that they would not only not direct us to what we wanted as tourists, but also to hurt a partner in your tourism business. Hmmmm.    Thought we would pass the word.  It was almost mean.  KC’s Outpost deserves to be plugged!
