CORRECTION

Well, as usual, I’m leading with a correction in last week’s “News”. I printed a photo of the new BGID. The second person on the left is Mike not “Mark” Harmon as I said. I must have been thinking of Tom Harmon, football player and sportscaster in my day. Also, Mike Aragon was absent that day.

Just wanted to let you know that I stopped at the HAPPY BURRO Chili and Beer bar on my way from Lost Wages to Gold Point. I enjoyed a bowl of their chili and had a cold glass of Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. Being from "Back East" PBR is hard to find. The place was cozy and the service was tops. I suggest that any traveler stop and enjoy the chili and "taster" glass of PBR. I asked the Bar Tender if he wanted me to spread the word as []I knew that some Riders from California City Ca. were planning on enjoying Bennie's Pig Roast. Sure, I was advised and they gave me some wooden tokens to hand out. Next time I come thru I plan on arriving there in the evening to observe the activity around the Brass Pole.                                         Dirty Ole Phil

Charley, I am writing this letter of pleasure on your news every week. Las Vegas also enjoys it. There are some people from Vegas coming to meet you. The gentleman that you are. Paul (The Snake) Richen

BGID MEETING MONDAY 06/22

Most of the meeting evolved around whether to allow the RV”s from the Best of the Desert race, coming in August, to park on the golf course. This item was tabled. It was, as usual, a friendly and peaceful meeting. That is why there is not much for this reporter to report!

The Little League would like to personally thank the Beatty Volunteer Fire Department for their support. They have appeared at all the games and the kids love it. You are welcome to come and join in the fun.

We now have, excuse me for being chauvinistic, a majority of females on the Board. Is this a good thing? If you take each of these women individually, you will see intelligence and, even sometimes, ingenuity. How will they function as a team? Will their gender make their decisions for them? What would have happened last year if this Board had been sitting? Would we now have an empty, over $100,000 trailer waiting for an occupant? Would we have committed over $100,000 in wages and bennies to a doctor we don’t have?

Let’s look at each Board member individually and see what they are made of and how they might be inclined to vote; The Chairman, Mike Lasorsa, is a hard working, dedicated (paid) Fireman. He, in the past, has opposed the spending of money on projects that have no apparent reason or necessity. That makes him a conservative member of the Board. The Vice-Chairman, Bert Bertram, has been on the Board longer than all the others combined and is knowledgeable in the ways of the BOCC and how it works. This makes him a valuable member. He is willing to spend money for projects, in my opinion., that do not serve the Town but do promote  businesses. He is, theretofore a left leaning conservative.

You may have noticed that the posters of the candidates for the BTAB vacancy have been posted on utility poles around town. Apparently Lieutenant Frank Jarvis ordered them removed, for reasons one can only guess at, and they have been removed. Hmmmm?

WOW! IT WAS A LANDSLIDE VICTORY

At Wednesday’s town meeting, Kay Handy got 102 of the 138 votes. That’s a majority in anyone’s book. The town showed up to vote for their favorite and Kay won. Good luck Kay!

IN MY OPINION!

In this year, I am trying to acknowledge what our Town Board has accomplished. The answer is nothing. They have spent a lot of time arguing about what should  do and what they should not and who is going to do what or who is going to do nothing.

The Treasurer, Lorene Younghans, is married to a pilot and leans toward improvements on Airport Road and also anything that will improve the airport. She is intelligent and thoughtful. She does not leap into a decision, but looks carefully and sometimes changes horses in midstream. Renie is, from what this reporter has seen,  for improving the “Rest Stop. She leans to the right of Liberal.
